Minnie and Maxie epitomize extreme anthropomorphism. They are a married couple, though Maxie is prone to wander if the scent is too strong…. This image was captured while they were on holiday to celebrate their third wedding anniversary at Cocoa Beach, Florida in 1979. They subsequently spent their senior years at the Golden Dreams Elderly Care Facility until they passed away in 1985 and 1987 respectively.

I am excited to invite you to the opening of an exhibition I have curated, Nature of the Mark, at Australian Galleries, 50 Smith Street, Collingwood, Victoria on Thursday August 25 2011 6pm – 8pm

The exhibition includes work by the following artists by G. W. Bot, Hertha Kluge-Pott, Simon Cooper, Alexi Keywan, Rosalind Atkins, Rona Green, Heather Shimmen, Cameron Fraser, Graeme Peebles, Monique Auricchio, Helen Kennedy, Tim Jones, John Wolseley, Geoffrey Ricardo and Deborah Williams.

Artists were invited ”to create a specific print based work relating to their individual response to the all-embracing term ‘nature’ within the broad definition; a natural physical world that can include plants, animals and landscapes without evidence of man or artificial elements. This underlying concept provided a unique opportunity for this group of disparate artists to create a work that engages with themes of central concern to their art practice, whilst celebrating a shared vision of pristine environments and diverse interpretation.”

The exhibition will run from Thursday 25 August – Sunday 18 September 2011

Australian Galleries Smith Street

50 Smith Street, Collingwood VIC 3066

10am – 6pm Monday – Saturday, 12noon – 5pm Sunday

Deborah’s artist books are included in

Happily Ever After alternative destinies in contemporary feminine narratives.

Curatored by Caelli Jo Booker and Helen Hopcroft.

john paynter gallery | newcastle NSW 10 June – 26 June 2011

artspace mackay | queensland 22 july – 28 October 2011

happilyeverafter11.blogspot.com

‘The exhibition is conceived as an interdisciplinary collaboration between artists, writers and craftspeople invited to work together to create handmade books which explore female narratives within the fairytale genre.

While the classic fairytale ending ‘happily ever after’ envisages a single, finite destiny, the contemporary feminine experience encompasses a multiplicity of roles, expectations, endings, beginnings and relationships. Thus the exhibition theme is probably best conceptualised as a celebration of diversity within destiny, with the fairytale genre used as the narrative vehicle to explore this idea.’
